Instructions
Chai Syrup
In a medium saucepan, add the water and all of the spices and maple syrup.
Bring to a boil, then reduce to a gentle simmer whisking frequently for 5 minutes to infuse the flavors.
Remove from heat and add the black tea to the mixture and stir to combine.
Let steep for 5 minutes, then strain out the spices and tea using a fine mesh strainer and/or cheesecloth. Note: using both a strainer and cheesecloth together will help reduce sediment from the ground spices.
Allow to cool slightly before transferring to a jar or bottle.
Chai Latte (Hot or Cold)
For Hot: Heat the syrup and milk together in a small saucepan over medium heat until just before simmering. Pour into a mug, top with frothed milk if desired, and finish with a light dusting of cinnamon or cinnamon sugar.
For Iced: Combine the syrup and milk in a shaker bottle or whisk together in a large glass. Serve over ice. Optional: add cold foam and a sprinkle of cinnamon on top.
Notes
StorageStore chai latte syrup in an airtight jar in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.*For the lattes - feel free to adjust milk/syrup ratios to your preference.
