Welcome to HUNGRY DANE KITCHEN

Hi, I’m Deb—the creator of Hungry Dane Kitchen. Thank you for visiting my site! Here, you’ll find a variety of tried-and-true recipes, including vegetarian and plant-based takes on the foods I grew up with while living on a dairy farm, along with some dog food and treat recipes.

A little about me: I’m a Registered Nurse with a deep passion for making delicious food from scratch. My husband and I have been vegetarian/pescatarian for over 15 years, leaning towards plant-based meals, although we occasionally enjoy eggs and cheese. As a result, not all recipes here are vegan or solely vegetarian. Interestingly, our daughter is currently a die-hard carnivore, so many of my dishes include both meat and non-meat variations to suit our family’s diverse tastes. However, we have tried to make the healthiest version of any dish we are making.

In addition to cooking for my family, I’m dedicated to ensuring our animals get the best nutrition possible. Several years ago, I started making my own dog food, and you’ll find a variety of homemade dog food and dog treat recipes on this site. Our Great Danes are very much a part of our family. In fact, they inspired the name “Hungry Dane Kitchen.” We’ve shared our home with two lovable Danes; Zeus and Thor, and in 2023, we added Magnus—a beautiful and equally food-obsessed Dane who supervises all of our kitchen adventures. As a disclaimer – I am not a veterinarian; while I have reviewed our animal’s nutrition with our vet to ensure we are making the most nutritious meals for our boys, I would encourage everyone to check with their vet when trying new foods for their pets as nutrition varies depending on breed, age, size, etc.

When I’m not in the kitchen, I enjoy staying active with my family through running, hiking, swimming, and cycling (road, gravel, and mountain biking). Over the years, I’ve completed several endurance races that require you to be dialed into your nutrition. Training while maintaining a meat-free diet taught me how to create nutrient-dense meals, and I’m excited to share those creations with you!

I’ve also been passionate about herbal and nutritional medicine for many years. Recently, I earned a certification through the Food Matters Institute in Nutrition and Coaching, which emphasizes using food, herbs, and lifestyle to support the body’s natural healing. What we put into our bodies significantly impacts our health. My hope is that you will find easy-to-make recipes, tips, and tricks that help reduce the consumption of processed food and make a positive impact on people’s lives.

Thank you for joining me on this journey! I hope the recipes, tips, and inspiration you find here bring joy to your kitchen and life.
