Welcome to HUNGRY DANE KITCHEN

Hi, I’m Deb – creator of Hungry Dane Kitchen. I’m so glad you’re here! On this site, you’ll find a mix of tried-and-true, mostly-from-scratch recipes designed with health in mind – for both humans and pets.
A Bit About Me
I grew up on Blueberry Hill Farm, a dairy farm in Massachusetts named for its abundant wild blueberry bushes. Ironically, I was the dairy farmer’s daughter who didn’t drink milk and wasn’t a fan of meat 😄. Thankfully, my parents let me be myself and never pushed the milk or meat. What my mom did instill in me, though, was a love for homemade, from-scratch cooking and a deep respect for knowing where your food comes from.
We had acres of vegetable gardens and fruit trees, and I grew up harvesting and preserving food through canning, fermenting, and dehydrating. Skills that still guide how I cook today.
Where I Am Now
I now live in New Hampshire with my husband and daughter. While we don’t have farmland anymore, we make the most of our space with raised bed gardens, herb pots, and scattered medicinal plants throughout our property.
The recipes you’ll find here are primarily vegetarian and plant-forward dishes I’ve developed and refined over the years to suit our lifestyle.
My Education & Career

- Registered Nurse – I earned my nursing degree from Rivier University in Nashua, NH in 1996.
- Nutrition & Coaching Certification – I completed a certification through the Food Matters Institute in 2024.
- Executive Director – For most of my professional career, I’ve worked with the senior population, serving as the Executive Director of a senior living community for the past 18 years. This role has given me the opportunity to collaborate with seasoned chefs whose creativity in the kitchen has greatly influenced my own.
How it all started
I started Hungry Dane Kitchen in 2020, after friends, family, and colleagues kept asking me for my recipes. I used to jot them down on scraps of paper or text photos of handwritten notes. One recipe I’m always asked for is my Sourdough Bread – it’s a staple in our house and one I batch weekly!
Not Just for People
In addition to feeding my human family, I’m committed to giving our animals the best nutrition possible. Years ago, I started making our own dog food, and today you’ll find a variety of homemade dog food and dog treat recipes on this site. My most popular recipes are this easy Instant Pot Chicken Dog Food and Homemade Soft Dog Treats.
Our Great Danes are beloved members of our family—and the inspiration behind the name Hungry Dane Kitchen. We’ve shared our lives with Zeus and Thor, and now Magnus—our beautiful, food-obsessed Dane who keeps a close eye on all kitchen activities.
For Fun

When I’m not cooking or working, I love staying active with my family. We enjoy running, hiking, swimming, and all kinds of cycling—road, gravel, and mountain biking. I’ve completed several endurance events over the years, including Ironman Lake Placid (140.6) in 2016.
Fueling for endurance training while maintaining a meat-free diet taught me a lot about building nutrient-dense meals—and I’m excited to share that knowledge with you.
