It’s summertime, which means I keep a variety of frozen treats in our freezer for our big guy, Magnus!  These frozen blueberry dog treats are non-dairy, low-calorie, and a great way to cool your pup while giving them a healthy, hydrating snack.

With minimal ingredients, blueberries, banana and water, these treats are simple and whip up quickly so you can get them in the freezer. They are great for dogs that have a dairy allergy or are on a low calorie diet. And bonus, stick a popsicle stick in them and you have a healthy, hydrating popsicle for the kids (and adults)! I won’t lie, when it’s hot out, Magnus gets one and I get one!! 😂

What You Will Need

  • Blueberries: fresh or frozen blueberries can be used for this treat.
  • Banana: one ripe banana.
  • Water
  • Silicone mold or ice cube trays

Instructions for Frozen Dog Treats

Add all ingredients to a blender and blend until smooth.

Pour into a mold or ice cube tray and place in the freezer for at least 3-4 hours to solidify.

That’s it!! So simple! Serve to your pup and see how much they enjoy this homemade frozen pup treat!

I know this is obvious, but store these treats in a freezer safe bag or container in the freezer for up to 3 months….if they last that long!

Pro-Tips: 1) While these easy treats are nutritious and fun, they will stain if melted before your pup consumes them. Therefore, I usually give these treats to Magnus outside. But, if I do give him some inside I will put in a bowl. Don’t know about your dog, but ours can be messy when they eat. 2) Silicon molds can be floppy – if using one, place it on a baking sheet or cutting board before pouring the mixture in the mold. This makes for less mess when transferring and storing in the freezer.

Benefits

Blueberries are packed with antioxidants, while the bananas add natural sweetness and fiber. This combination makes for a nutritious treat that is as easy to make as it is wholesome for your pup.

These dairy-free frozen dog treats are low-calorie, so they are the perfect cool snack for those dogs that need to omit dairy and watch those calories!

Serving Size

Serving size depends on your dogs size, weight, age, and activity level, as well as the size of the mold. But a general rule of thumb is 1-2 treats/day

An important note – some dogs do not tolerate frozen treats. In this case, it is recommended to serve cold, not frozen. As always, check with your veterinarian if you have any concerns with introducing new foods.
