This Honey Dijon Salad Dressing is a simple and versatile recipe with lovely sweet but tangy flavor notes that is easy to prepare and store whenever you need an amazing dressing! Its creamy texture is achieved by blending just a few simple ingredients, making it a great addition to a variety of salads or bowls. It pairs particularly well with our Kale and Quinoa Salad or Roasted Butternut Squash Salad.
Preparing homemade salad dressings is very straightforward and allows for better control over the ingredients compared to a store-bought version. It can be made fresh as needed or in advance while meal prepping, as I often do on Sundays. During the summer when we are consuming a lot of fresh salads, I will double-batch this recipe so that it I have enough on-hand to last throughout a week or two.
As with anything homemade versus store-bought, you can avoid unnecessary additives and preservatives that are often found in pre-made dressings in the grocery store and at a fraction of the cost.
Ingredients
Creamy Dijon Mustard: 3 tablespoons of creamy dijon mustard works best to keep that creamy texture of this dressing.
Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV): 1/4 cup ACV. The vinegar helps to balance the flavors and acts as a preservative to help the dressing last a bit longer.
Olive oil: 1/2 cup of extra-virgin olive oil which is a nice neutral oil that enhances flavors and blends well for that creamer texture. Avocado oil can also be used as it is a nice neutral oil as well.
Honey: 1/4 cup of honey. The honey helps to balance the acidity and adds a natural sweetener. If you do not have honey, you can substitute with pure maple syrup.
Lemon Juice: 1 tablespoon of fresh lemon juice.
Optional: Salt and ground black pepper to taste. The dijon mustard is salty so I omit adding salt. however I do add a few cranks of my pepper mill to season slightly.
How to Make Honey Dijon Dressing
Yields: 1 1/4 cups of salad dressing.
In a small bowl, combine all of the ingredients using a whisk.
Whisk until combined and texture is creamy.
Transfer to a salad dressing vessel. I personally use a mason jar to store and serve my dressing.
That’s truly it! So simple!
Storage
Store this honey mustard salad dressing in an airtight container (such as a mason jar) for up to two weeks in the refrigerator. When ready to use, give the jar a good shake to mix the ingredients again.
