In our house, there’s one thing we simply can’t run out of: dog treats! These 3-ingredient Peanut Butter and Banana Dog Treats are an absolute favorite with our Great Danes! Made with wholesome, simple ingredients, they come together quickly and easily.
Every weekend, I set aside time to batch-make dog treats. This recipe is a go-to because I almost always have overripe old bananas by the end of the week. If I’m not baking Banana Bread, you can bet I’m turning those bananas into treats for our pups! Along with these biscuits, I also whip up Bacon Cheddar Treats and dehydrated beef snacks.
If you’re looking for a thoughtful gift for friends with fur babies, these Peanut Butter Dog Treats are a perfect choice. They’re sure to be a hit with both pets and their owners!
Ingredients
- Creamy Peanut Butter – ¾ cup natural peanut butter with no added sugar or salt. Ensure the peanut butter does not have xylitol as this can be toxic to dogs.
- Bananas – 2 ripe bananas which should equal about ¾ cup when mashed. Overripe bananas work very well.
- Oat Flour – 2 cups of oat flour. You can purchase oat flour or you can make your own ground oats. Add whole oats to a food processor and blend until reduced to flour texture, usually takes about 10-15 seconds.
Equipment
- Baking sheet or cookie sheet
- Mixing bowl
- Hand-held mixer or whisk
- Cookie cutter – dog bone shaped. This is what I use – 4-pc dog bone and paw cookie cutters, as they cut through dough easily and hold up well.
- Optional – food processor for grinding oats.
How to Make Peanut Butter Banana Treats
Yield: approx. 24 three-inch dog cookies
Preheat oven to 350 ℉.
Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or oil baking sheet to prevent sticking.
- In a medium bowl, add the peanut butter and bananas. Blend with a hand-held electric mixer or a wire whisk until the mixture is creamy and smooth.
- Add the oat flour and fold it into the peanut butter mixture until the dough comes together in a ball.
- Place dough on a floured surface. Using a rolling pin, roll the dough until about ¼ inch thick. Use a cookie cutter to cut out fun shapes such as these cute dog bone shapes.
- Place treats on the prepared baking sheet and place in preheated oven.
- Bake for 10-15 minutes or until cookies are slightly brown on the bottom.
- Transfer to a cooling rack. Allow cookies to cool completely before giving them to your dog.
Storage
Store these tasty treats in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days (for high humid areas – store in the refrigerator). For longer storage, store in the refrigerator for up to 7 days and the freezer for up to 3 months. These homemade treats freeze very well in a freezer-safe sealed container. When we make a batch, we store half in the freezer to always have some on hand for our pups!
Why Make Your Own Dog Treats?
Making my own dog treats is something I talk a lot about. By making your homemade dog treats, you control what you give to your furry friend. Store-bought dog treats almost always have additives and preservatives to make them shelf stable, which can wreak havoc on a dog’s system. These homemade peanut butter banana dog treats are a simple and great way to incorporate your dog’s diet.
