These homemade Carrot Dog Treats started as a fun Easter idea, but they quickly became a favorite to include in my regular rotation for our dog, Magnus. Just a handful of staple, dog-friendly ingredients, and depending on the size treat you are going for, this recipe will yield 14-24 treats

Working from my base recipe Homemade Soft Dog Treats, and using carrots for a different texture, flavor, and feel, these treats come together in one bowl. And if you have a food processor, it makes it even easier. The food processor really incorporates the ingredients and brings out the orange in the carrots, making this a fun treat for special occasions, especially Easter. You can also add a decorative dog-friendly icing to make them extra special.

To make fun shapes, use a cookie cutter, a sharp knife, or your hands to mold them. For egg-shaped Easter treats, I line a cookie sheet with parchment paper. Then, using a large scoop, I placed balls of dough on the parchment paper. Using wet fingertips, I mold the dough into an egg shape. Super easy and requires little cleanup, since there is no dough rolling!

Carrot Dog Treat Ingredient Notes

See recipe card for measurements.

Labeled ingredients for carrot dog treats.
  • Carrots: Carrots add natural sweetness and are a good source of Vitamin A for dogs.
  • Oat Flour: A gentle, gluten-free option that’s easy to digest and works well for many dogs with sensitivities.
  • Peanut Butter: All-natural, no added sugar or salt. Peanut butter adds flavor that dog love. Just be sure the brand you are using does not contain xylitol, as this is toxic to dogs.
  • Applesauce: Helps bind everything together while adding moisture and a touch of natural sweetness.
  • Egg: Helps give these treats structure.

Tip: I don’t usually buy oat flour. Instead, I make my own by adding rolled oats to my food processor and blending until they turn into a fine flour. It’s quick, easy, and much more budget-friendly.
